The Fly (2014)

Flies 101: Information on Types of Flies & Prevention

The Fly is an interesting film about a bank robbery starting a group of bank robbers living in England.

The film is all crazy and details the story of a man’s battle with a fly under extreme crime related

pressure. The film employs schemas of our prior knowledge of bank robbing and bank robbers just like

many other short films.  This is great because it means the filmmakers didn’t have to use up a lot of

film time (of which there is notably little) establishing the character, his motivations, his habits and ect.

It also has a great retro style. It's like the 1970s or the 1980s. The car is an old style car, the film was

graded. And it’s like those old films like Top Gun, and other crime oriented films. But the film puts a

spin on these films by not focusing on the robbery itself which we can hear through the doors.

There’s also some cool editing where there’s a bit of a jump cut, as the protagonist is doing some

violent stuff. Sells how unhinged this guy is.

The Protag’s single minded obsession with flies is what inevitably spells his downfall, what Poetic

justice! It’s a wonderful story.
