Tight Jeans (2008)

Tight Jeans, directed by Destiny Ekaragha is a film about three gleeful men who sit atop a wall and chat about! It’s a film that keeps us guessing precisely what the story is about. The slow dollying of the camera does give a slow momentum to the story. These people are striving to improve themselves, they feel upset by local white skinned people’s clothing but make amends by exploring history, sociology and genetics. These characters all feel very realised and they certainly capture your attention and what’s more, they are each identifiable by their uniquely coloured outfits.

When composing a short film it might be a better choice to focus on something regular and banal rather than something apparently amazing and profound. It can be tempting as a filmmaker to add in something fantastical in the film simply because you can, but in doing so you may loose your connection to reality, the relatability or grounded-ness of your story. That element is important to preserve.
